Course Description:
Global tourism has firmly established itself as an industry of major importance, and is more than just a powerful economic force. The activities of tourism affect nature, the environment and the landscapes of tourist destinations. Tourism changes the living environment of individuals and cultures worldwide. In addition, tourism is very sensitive to global transformations: acts of terrorism, economic recession, epidemics and climate change have a strong impact on the travel behaviour of tourists and on the prosperity of tourist destinations.
The complexity of the tourism phenomenon requires a scientific approach.
The Bachelor of Science Tourism is an academic programme focussing on developments in tourism and the interrelationships between tourism, economics, society and the environment. As a student of this programme you will learn how to research tourism. After graduating as a bachelor of science, you can either apply your knowledge to the sustainable development of tourism, or continue your education by following an academic Master.
This programme is offered in conjunction with Wageningen University.
