Tuition Fees in the Netherlands
Standard tuition fees in 2011-2012 are around €1,700 for most courses. There are some exceptions and private universities will almost always be more expensive. However, these fees are correct for the majority of courses taught in English in the Netherlands.
Tuition fees in the Netherlands are roughly half the level that they are in England and will be even cheaper when fees change in 2012. There will be annual increases in line with inflation but a change in the policy on tuition fees is not foreseen at this time.
Most Dutch universities offer students two ways of paying fees. You can either pay the full fees up front or in 10 monthly instalments of around €160 each. This means that you don’t have to worry about having the full fees available at the beginning of your course and you will be eligible for a loan to pay your fees if required. Tuition fees are paid directly to the university. It will be immediately obvious where your tuition fees are going as Dutch universities have invested heavily in:
- Up to date teaching materials
- New buildings and facilities
- Plentiful computers that actually work
- Lecturers who know their students personally
- Room to study individually or in small groups
